Strengthen the Local Food Economy

The FEC is working toward ensuring that food and agriculture businesses that produce, process, distribute, and sell local and healthy food have the support and infrastructure they need to grow and thrive in Prince George’s County.

Healthy Food Priority Areas Work Group

Work group members establish incentives for healthy food retail outlets to locate in under-resourced areas. The work group and partners developed and launched the first version of the county’s Healthy Food Priority Areas Map.

Healthy Corner Store Initiative:

This initiative is designed to increase the quality and availability of healthy food at locally owned businesses in the county. Members are working to produce a user-friendly toolkit for corner store owners that want to offer healthier foods.

Farmers Market Working Group

The work group seeks to provide farmers markets and their supporting agencies and non-profit organizations with technical assistance and advocacy support to ensure they can operate and grow in Prince George’s County.
