Position Title: Prince George’s County Food Equity Council Program Coordinator

Positions Available: One part-time consultant position (~20 hours week) is available. Continued availability of this position is contingent upon funding.

Program Overview: IPHIis recruiting a contractor to serve as a part-time Program Coordinator to support the Prince George’s County Food Equity Council (FEC). FEC is a local food policy council that helps residents grow, sell, and choose healthy foods. Since 2013, the FEC has been a voice for county residents at the policymaking table. The council members and staff work closely with county leaders to find systematic and sustainable solutions to our county’s public health and economic challenges by advocating for policy that creates a more equitable local food system. FEC believes every resident, regardless of their race, class, or zip code, should be able to easily access healthy, affordable, culturally-appropriate, and locally produced foods.

Over the past five years, the FEC has helped local growers and small food businesses survive and thrive by partnering with key influencers and policymakers to change laws. As a result, local farmers markets now enjoy a more streamlined permitting process, fewer fees and regulations, and extended operating hours. Food trucks are providing new entrepreneurship opportunities for County residents and delicious and diverse fare in areas lacking brick-and-mortar options.  Almost three-quarters of all county land was rezoned for urban farming, which means more residents can grow healthy food, engage directly with their food source, and enjoy greener spaces. A more comprehensive list of FEC’s accomplishments is available at www.pgcfec.org.
